If I didn't do my roof as a pop-up I would have simply cut the whole thing right below the rain guard, lift the roof as needed by extending each aluminum studs and re-skinning the gap between the top part of the wall and the roof. Sounds like a big ordeal but I'm confident it could be done in a weekend. A body of mine did his that way, pretty sure I already posted some pictures in one of the stickies...
