There are a few guys running 39's without AEV fender flares, @offroadtreks on IG is one of them. He claims it just takes a little more trimming and hammering lol. Either way you shouldn't have to replace your lift in order to make them fit, a set of the fenders can be done with your Carli or Thuren lift.

I've also heard the comment on Rams and BFGs wearing out, it seems to be shared whenever a tire recommendation thread comes up on HD ram forums. Tires are always evolving though. I'm looking forward to hearing the first hand experience and mileage you get based on that brand new set.

Speaking of larger tires and to start another conversation, anyone have any thoughts/options on running 39/40s without having to do AEV fenders? I don't want to change lifts from my Carli backcountry, but we all want to plan that larger set. These trucks wear 40s like my old solid axle Toyota wore 33s, it just looks good. There are some other front fenders available and I think the rear would have no issues clearing 40s.
Was gonna say basically the same thing @Tex68w said but I'll add that if you're looking at going that large you will most likely want to run a PSC or other hydro steering for such a large heavy tire. Personally, I don't know that I'd venture into 40s without the flares, but you should be good with 39s. Sadly, those AEV flares look awesome but make 40s look small, so you kinda gotta step up to 41-42s, and at that point where does the insanity end? (Editors note: the author is constantly considering doing AEV flares and 42s, so he is not a good source for "keep it moderate" planning)

I plan on accomplishing this by getting a pair of Synergy radius arm drops. You can push the axle forward .5" or 1.5". That will be plenty fit a 39. Will have to either trim or run an aftermarket front bumper though. Another option is the fab fours open fender system. The bolt-on flare looks stupid but I've been around one without them and just the base fender. Very clean looking.

@GPurcell01 post up some pics of those fenders without the flares so we can see what you're talking about. I hate all of the hardware that they require and like @Todd n Natalie said, FabFours usually equates to yuck in most instances lol. The Synergy stuff would almost be a requirement for 39's and I'd definitely suggest hydro assist as well, hell I've even considered it with 37's but for now I think I am going to do a DOR steering brace and call it good.

Hahaha, I posted that pic. I guess I didn't realize he was running them without the flare. Still too much hardware for my liking. I wonder if someone makes fiberglass flares for these trucks?!

That's a very good question. I don't think I've seen any.

I guess I'm the odd man out for liking them. I would like to see one with all black hardware too. I like the look either way.

On a black truck with black hardware and sans flares they probably wouldn't look bad. I don't hate them but I am not jumping at the chance to run them either.

That looks like an expedition one rear bumper with no swingouts on it. Wonder what the story there was.

I think the next big mod for my truck will be a custom swing out tire carrier that allows for raising/lowering the wheel to the ground. There is an old HMMVV design that I hope to mimic with a few modifications to include a storage box.

Still in the planning phase and clearance for the trailers (I have 3) is a priority, hence why I want it easy to remove the tire. Well, and I'm not a young buck anymore and hoisting ~110lbs of tire 4 foot off the ground on any semi-regular basis just sounds bleh.

It is and I wondered the same when I saw it in person. Probably got tired of opening two swing outs, the lift gate window and then the tailgate to access his bed lol. Their latch design while interesting also left a few guys underwhelmed too and they had a lot of PC issues a few years back as well. I like their designs but they leave a lot to be desired in terms of customer service. There used to be a thread here dedicated to the issues on the Expo One 4th Gen Ram rear bumper.

My truck is my daily and that is the exact same thing I keep going back and forth with. I want to carry a full size spare, and preferably extra fuel and a shove and maxtraxs, but I'm not super keen on opening multiple swings, latches, etc. to get to my bed. I like the idea of the rigd tire carrier to do all that, and it's what I'm currently leaning toward. Not quite as compact, prob not as stable or durable in the long run, but I can toss it on when I want it and leave it when I don't. I guess time will tell.
