Overview:

The Ram 5500 adventure truck started as a BLM Silver State Hot Shots Crew Carrier in Nevada and was eventually sold at government auction. When we acquired it, it was still a crew carrier. The truck box has now been converted into a camper with water, power, & heat to last at least a week without needing provisions. The box interior offers a secure, comfy and insulated space while the exterior compartments are utilized for outdoor utility. Two of the compartments work as the main outdoor kitchen and sink setup, while the rest act as infrastructure or storage. The smaller box and chassis size means the length is only 21 ft and 9 ft tall, which is great for exploring more remote areas. The truck is very solid (drivetrain and box build) and has proven itself very capable in the backcountry. We’ve taken the truck through 7 states, multiple mountain passes, dozens of national parks and monuments, and spent 50+ overnighters exploring many remote areas. This truck is a great fit for a couple or small family who like to explore the unbeaten path and settle down for a while.

Additional info:

Tires (and truck) ride smooth on the highway.

Hwy speed 65-75 MPH, tires are speed rated at 68 MPH. TPMS system installed to monitor tire PSI & temperature

All maintenance up to date. All fluids & filters have been changed since ownership. Replaced tie rod, steering box, thermostat, coolant hoses, serpentine belt, both batteries, entire DPF system. Service documentation available where applicable

Registration has not been converted to RV. If desired, truck does qualify for inspection in Arizona to be registered as an RV

Emission compliant. Passed AZ emissions June 2022

I dig this! GLWS

Question... How on earth did you fit a belt driven compressor on the 6.7? I've been researching this for awhile with no luck.

Any pics of it??

Thanks

So couch is a sleeper sofa, correct? Looks like it can not be removed from the rig without deconstructing the sofa?

Is there a trailer hitch in the rear? If so weight capacity?

It's a Sanden style A/C compressor that was mounted on the driver's side using a special bracket and pulley. This was done as part of the up fit for the box HVAC. Once I deleted the box HVAC, I replumbed the compressor line to pull air from the filtered air intake and added a line oiler & collector to lube the compressor. Lastly, I wired the clutch to one of the RAM aux switches. Makes for a pretty high volume air compressor! Fills up tires and paddle boards, but by far the best use is attaching a hose and spray nozzle to blow out dirt from the camper!

I just have one picture of the compressor. Doesn't show the full bracket, but should give you an idea on the location. Driver side, above the steering pump.

Yes, the sofa is a sleeper and makes a full size bed. We use a 3" memory foam topper and it's comfortable. It's a been a while, but I think I removed one armrest to fit it in the camper (bolt installed). So, yes.

Currently no trailer hitch is installed.

Thanks for the reply. I’d love to add One to mine.

I’ve had York belt driven compressors on several of my builds and love them.

Great work! GLWS

Hello,
Can you post any undercarriage or frame pictures? Also a close up of the rear frame where a tow hitch would possible mount? And pictures of the engine bay.
thanks
