Ram HDs with 37s. Do you carry a spare?

Those of you with HD trucks with 37s and no rear bumper tire carrier. Are you carrying a spare in the bed somehow or are you just fingers crossed that a puncture will be something you can limp home with just plugs in the hole?

Just trying to figure out if I really need to be carrying around my stock spare or if I can use that space for either an Aux tank or my onboard air setup.

I have a spare in the bed under my mini Front Runner rack. I could probably fit two under there, but right now I just have one. I also like the fact that the spare is up towards the cab, rather than adding extra weight to the tail area. You can barely see it in the picture. Also, in this picture, the spare is not pushed all the way to the front of the bed. There is about a foot of space taken up by a tote that was back there. It usually fits all the way under the rack.20180922_162854.jpg

That picture shows what I'm afraid of. That tire takes up 2/3 of the bed. I have a cap on my truck and load it up when we go on trips.

I have a spare 37" tire underneath. There's just enough space between the brackets of the hitch assembly. No pictures of the tire hoisted up, just my truck.

I am running 315's,I have the spare mounted vertically at the back of the bed,it does take up to much room.
I prefer to have the spare mounted closer to the cab,but I don't want to have to unload the shell to get to the spare on a trip.
It's insurance,if I have a spare maybe I won't have a flat,no spare and I am guaranteed a flat.;)

Tires are much better today, back in the 70's I had 2 flats(fortunately, not at the same time) on brand new tires in Death Valley.

Ok. I didn't realize the Superduty would fit a 37 underneath. I have a Ram. I'll have to take that out of the title of the thread.

I know on a dodge/ram a 35” will fit underneath if it’s deflated. Not sure what will fit a Ford.

But if you want an aux tank, just buy the Titan spare tire tank, it’s 30 gal, and run your spare vertically in the bed.

This is what I'm thinking. Since I started running LT tires on my trucks over hundreds of thousands of miles all across the country and over tons of FS roads I haven't even so much as had a puncture. I do carry a good plug kit in the truck. I just keep wondering what is the real risk of a puncture to a tire that the plug kit can't handle.

I blew out a 37 inch Toyo on the road and a plug kit wouldn’t fix it, it happens. It was a Toyo rt with 10k on it. A 1/2 bolt somehow got stuck through the edge of the tread on the side of the tire. I now just throw a spare tire in the bed and take it out when need be, or I throw it on my yakama mega warrior.

I need a swing out bumper that actually works.

I'm wondering if I need to just find a cheap 35 to mount on my spare rim and stuff it underneath and plan on putting it on the front if I have a flat.

Or you could just add latex sealant to your tires, not worry about a flat, and just be done with it.

Hell Porsche doesn’t even add spare tires to their cars but every one of them has a bottle of sealant in it.

That stuff works like a charm too. I run it in my tubeless mtb tires.

Why not just load the tire so that it is standing up in the bed? I believe Titan Tanks makes kits which keep the tire secure to the bedside.

Swingout carrier would be a lot of weight cantilevering off the rear end. Also, I'm not sure anyone makes a decent one for the Ram HD. Has Expedition One fine-tuned their product yet?

I don't think a 37" tire fit under the bed on my 2004 Superduty. I tried, but was unsuccessful due to the dual exhaust I had on it. The hitch frame might have changed to accommodate larger tires since stock size on some models are close to 35".
