Rambling Adventure Houston to Sac

Excuse grammar - am posting via my hand held. I will have Shrockwrks post my pics

I left wed. eve and as usual the first hurdle of trips is making it out of Tx. , I headed out of Houston on 290 making a B line toward the Santa Fe, NM, I passed through
a lot of small towns and ranches lined the roads. I took a pic of an interesting one. I was heading to a friends land just outside of the small mtn. town of Truchas (8300ft). The national forest surrounding has forest roads and trails to drive.
The drive on 75 and 76 has great views and old cabins here and there. I got here yesterday eve and was cold and when I woke today there was 4-6" of snow.
I'll explore some of the forest and see if I don't fall in a snow banked stream tryoing to fish after spending 35 dollars on a 3 day permit.

After I leave it's CO on my way to Moab to meet up with some Nor Cal wheeling friends. Pics to follow

Last night:

I ventured out on Forest rd. 722 and got to make fresh tracks for a while up to 9700ft. .
The snow got a little deeper and though I've taken trips in much deeper snow I decided to
turn back. I am not familiar with the area and being alone I didn't want to have to self recover.
I continued down 518 toward Mora and turned into Duran Canyon traveling down Duran Canyon rd.
which deep into the forest turned to Forest rd. 76. I stopped in a few spots to fish. This is the coldest
fishing I've done, having to stop and clear ice out of the looms. I did get several hits in a spot that just
said "if I were a fish, I'd be here". Eventually I lost light and traveled miles into the forest. I turned back
to camp at Carson camp which was cool as you had to drive through the creek to get to...I did not see
anyone the whole time on rd. 76. I know why, it is cold.

Today: last night was a cold one, my 0 deg bag was tested as I was hudling for warmth. I went fishing this morn
And my line was freezing. The spot I got a few bites at was starting to ice over on the sides. The Carson National Forest
Is awesome. I keep missing my friends directions to good spots due to lack of signal but I am happy with what I've seen.
I am heading through Taos on my way to Moab.

I took 64 to 84 from Taos, NM to Pagosa Springs, CO. Leaving Taos you'll see recycled material houses (i.e tires, cans) then there was a climb through a national forest (brain is fried,
I can't remember) up to 10500ft, some sweet landscapes andsnow covered meadows. Down the otherside of the pass was spotted with old cabins and ranch houses. My head has been
on a swivel since leaving Taos. Back out there..

From my last post I made my way through Siverton up to Ouray, CO. I saw both Deer and Elk heards Talk about a view, I have pics but They probably won't do justice. The area was sweet and towns were small and nestalgic. In Ouray, there were 4 deer walking down the sidewalk. I went to Ouray in the attept to get to Telluride by taking Imogen Pass, the second highest vehicular pass in Co. (4x4 only) but 1/3 of the way in there was a gate locked due to avalanche danger. At that point I figured I was getting sick (literally) of the cold so with the highway re route causing Telluride to be a back track I just went for Moab. Before I knew it I was here. That is once I got out of the winding mtn. roads with groups of deer. So once that was behind me the straight 65 mph sections with my 6" piaas and high beams made me feel Like I was flying a jet at low alt. . I meet up with the group at about 12:30am by wandering Moab, I've been here a time or two so I with an educated guess I narrowed down the options.

The 85 "bare steelie" trail rig was shipped to Ca with my stuff.

Great pics of the snow. It's already too hot out here in Sac. Looks like you'll miss the 95 degree weather.

Man, that quiet, snowy road and crisp weather looks like a slice of heaven just now (the US east coast feels like a swamp with heavy traffic!)

Thanks for sharing

After Moab I headed to Carson City to see some old friends, then hit the last bit over the Sierras yesterday. I would have camped along hwy 80 but I had to cut the trip a little short in the end due to needing to head out for a Rockcrawling comp in Cedar City this week. Everything went well, no issues. So here's the pics of the cockpit gear and "living quarters" :)
