It was part of the Cloud-Climbing Railroad. This spur from Alamogordo was built to bring timber down from the Sacramento Mountains for construction of the El Paso & Northeastern Railroads in 1898. The spur operated until 1947 and the Cloudcroft Trestle is all thet remains today. The trestle can be seen from Hwy 82 just west of Cloudcroft, NM, but you have to be on the lookout for it.

I know exactly where that is!!! I have never seen it under snow though. Growing up in the Las Cruces NM area, I spent lots of time in the Lincoln and Gila NF. Great picture!

The Trestle was under renovation, they brought in a company that specializes in historic renovating, they did a great job.

a MILE MARKER on a DIRT ROAD?????????????????????????????

really? we have speed limit signes...sometimes even warning arrows for turns...but I've never seen a mile marker!!
