Randumb insanity xj...

I've been a jeep addict most of my 44 years. I also suffer from a tooManyIdeas-itis. As in I get so many ideas that I end up with multiple (LOTS!) of projects going on all at the same time. Usually causing lots of lost time and wasted effort.
My 01 XJ is a great example of this sickness. Purchased while stationed in Germany it was originally a 2wd jeep. A great deal of stuff has been changed and modified in the almost 5 years I've owned it.
In April we move from N VA to Colorado. 25 days and a smart person would be wrapping stuff up and preparing for the move, right? Well, nobody will ever accuse me of being very smart...haha.
The last couple weeks I have been burning the midnight oil trying to get the jeep ready for the road. Unfortunately the last few added projects have snowballed a good bit.
1st major project was swapping the old stereo head unit for a much improved Alpine unit and adding speakers to actually hear it. Old unit only had the two original (and non-functioning) door speakers and two blown speakers in the rear. So far I've managed to get the head unit in and the "brain box" and amps mounted to the new partial bulkhead. Still have to wire all that up and build mounts for the additional speakers.
The wiring is what prompted the second over complicated project...
Installing a second battery.
I've managed to get the battery tray built and installed the last couple days. Today I got the panel made that both surrounds the battery as well as acts as a mount for the switch, relay, fuse, etc.
The hard part will be trying to understand where all the wires must connect and get them all built and run. Time is at odds with my ocd and desire to have it all done and not look like a rats nest when I'm done. Not to mention burning the jeep to the ground.

What part of Colorado are you moving to?!
Springs. Leaving active duty and found a reserve slot down there. Hopefully I can find a federal job to carry my years over but I'm just excited about getting there. We'll be looking for an apartment for 6-12 months until we learn the area and find a house to buy. Unfortunately that means my jeep building will probably be on hold a while. :(
Did get this done and painted today...

Pretty cool stuff already in this thread. Welcome to Colorado.
Thank you sir! The XJ has come a long way and today was sort of the validation of all my efforts. Took the jeep through state safety and emissions inspection and it passed without issue. Yippieee.
Now I can get back to the bazillion half started projects knowing I'm roadworthy.

I always love custom stuff. Nice!
Thanks herc....
I unfortunately had to cease progress for a bit as the tow pig needs love before dragging our junk out to the springs. Hopefully I finish it up today and can get back to the xj.

Got tired of stopping the suburban on front brakes only. Ditched the POS drums, all 50lbs of em, for a set of discs. That should help with the trailer towing one of the jeeps.
