Rant number 2....

I was considering the Airlift some time ago and after many inquiries with all the local 4X4 shops and a very trusted mechanic that has done every install on every vehicle out there from Jeeps to BMW... His opinion was to burn a $100 bill before I waste it on that system... he said he's had nothing but problems when a customer wants to install them... the manufacturer is good at replacing the bad bags but that doesn't cover the cost of labor. If you know how to do it yourself you're okay as long as you have time and patience. However if you have to pay someone to do it you're gonna empty your wallet time after time.

I'm glad I made the informed decision to not waste my time and money installing those air bags... It's really too bad because it seems like an easy cost effective fix... if it would work.

Eventually I will install the ACOS spacers so that I can adjust ride height according to load.

Thanks for letting me butt in.

Air Lift package arrived

A package from Air Lift arrived yesterday. When I called them this past Monday (9/20), they were very helpful again. I explained what happened and they said no problem we'll send another one out. "Actually we'll send 2 out, that way you'll have a spare". Anyway, I reinstalled last night and still had pressure this morning. I'll go for a drive and see how the new bag holds up. I'm a little concerned with the "spare" mentality.

As advertisied

I just got back from using the jeep for some field work. 4 days and 3 nights. The bag(s) lost 2-3 lbs. in 24 hrs. Other than that they performed per the manufacturers specs. No rips/tears, controlled sagging and vehicle sway. Looks like it was a bad batch in my case.

i had only good experiences with the air lift bags i had on my xj...
i had them on for about 100k miles with hard core wheeling in an overloaded rig and dayly driving...
only thig week was the frame of the truck. at one point the bolt ripped through the frame. a bit of welding solved that problem too.
so i can only recommend the bags...

every once in a while i had to add a bit of air, but that could also be due to temp. changes (?) but that was rarely necessary.
I'm a little concerned with the "spare" mentality.
i don't know what your relations are to murphy and his family, but once you carry a spare you usually don't need it ;-)
