It's happened to me twice now. No surprise really as I rarely trail/explore with my doors and windows on. If you get the following error on your Nav display, don't panic.
"DISK ERROR. EJECT AND CHECK DISK".
The Nav unit is just dirty. The 1st time it happened was after a trip to Moab in the dusty conditions.
The second time was last week when I was exploring the Hayman burn area here in Colorado for 4 days. Extremely dirty, dry, and dusty conditions caused the error mid trip. A quick trip to Radio Shack and we were back to 100%.
To fix get a CD lens cleaner CD. Not a wet cleaning type but rather a brush type. Even though the RB1 is a DVD based system a DVD cleaner disk did nothing for me. The brushes on those two cleaning disks are apparently in different locations on the disk so the DVD disk's brushes misses the lens.
I will now keep the newest CD lens cleaner in the Jeep for the next time it happens. Oh yea, before trying any of the cleaner CDs I cleaned the NAV DVD and blew out the player with compressed air. Loads of dust came out but apparently that doesn't "clean off" the lens well enough.
Hope this helps someone!
