If you have it in your budget those new Warn winches have remote control including the drum clutch, meaning you can put it in free spool without popping the hood. Its on my short "ohhh I want that" list.

Those winches are really slick and I would like to have one but it is at the bottom of my priority list for the build. I want to get a camper and lower gears firstI rigged up my jack to walk up a chain and got a snatch block and recovery rope and it can generate a lot of pull.

I had a winch on my last truck and used it to recover myself 3 times in 10 years.49ADAA4B-A64E-45C6-939C-FDFEBB595834.jpeg

@Boatbuilder79 as I've grown older my need for a winch on any prospective build has gone down significantly. In about 6 years of ownership I think I've used my winch to help me get unstuck 3 times. Having it handy is nice since I've also pulled countless people out, but with the proliferation of Jeeps with winches everywhere I don't feel guilty thinking that my next build won't have one at all. All the stuff you mentioned would be a priority on my list as well.

You will enjoy how the skid plates don't rust, but remember they aren't invincible. I have 1/4" aluminum RCI on my 12th gen and high centered myself on an obstacle hidden with snow and bent the transmission plate decently.
Let's see pics after, especially if you choose a winch!

Same here. Although I’m sure depends on your terrain.
If I feel there’s a high chance of getting stuck, I’ll bring a come along.

Also the type of wheeling you do. If you're a solo guy its a must, or at least you need to be reasonable cautious. My next run is with a group that includes a chase truck so I mean if I get stuck there will be like 9 other trucks there with tow straps.

What I like about a using the hi lift or a come along is that it will work without power and has no Chinese electrical parts to fail.

But the problem is the space it takes up. I need to figure out a good way to store it.

I like the idea of the winch behind the bumper because it doesn’t take away any precious cargo space
