Re-tread tires

Those are 33's right? Any reports as to tread life? I see around 25k is average.

I'm thinking a 5 tire rotation could get around 35k. maybe a little more if lucky.

My van has a set of Treadwright A/T's which I've had for 3 years. Admittedly I've only put about 2k miles on them during which time they have been totally fine. I have aired them down to 20 psi on my large rig and they were fine with that as well. I will say the sidewalls on my tires have taken a beating from the sun and weather (parked outdoors all year) and are starting to check / sun crack. I also have wierd checking in the retread rubber around the perimeter of the tread. There isn't anything there that concerns me to the point of wanting to replace quite yet, and honestly with the way I use the rig, I suspect I'd have the same issues had I bought brand new tires. I'm going to keep a close eye for further deterioration, but with my experiences up to this point I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Treatwright products to somebody, and I have no doubt I'll buy another set to replace my current tires when the time comes. The price point is significant enough that I'm willing to deal with small issues here and there.

Update on my Treadwright Guard Dogs.

They are GONE!!! Yippeee!

I finally replaced them this week. We had about 25K miles on them on a 1999 Grand Cherokee. BFG AT carcass, size 265/60-16s on stock wheels. The tread wear was very strange. One tire looked like it was practically new, one was totally bald, one was cupped badly and the last had great tread but started to separate/delaminate from the carcass (the reason I replaced them all). They had been rotated at approximately 5K mile intervals.

The only way I would EVER buy these again is for an offroad-only vehicle. They were loud from day one and only got worse. Much worse. Dozens of people commented to my wife that they could hear her vehicle coming down the road 15-20 seconds before she appeared. She couldn't even talk on her cell phone if she were on the highway.

I've ran bias swampers on my YJ before and am very familiar with loud tires and a bad ride. I'd say the treadwrights were eventually as loud as swampers. They road horribly as well. They always had a vibration of the tread beating the pavement. After the uneven wear the were so rough it felt like a ujoint was siezed.

They were so bad my wife insisted on HT-type tread for the replacements. We went with Dunlaps and they make it feel like a brand new vehicle.

For comparison I just put 35-12.50-15 Cooper Discoverer Stts on my TJ. They are an aggressive tread but super smooth and quiet. Nearly as quiet as the BFG ATs they replaced.

I've had a set of Treadwright GuardDog 315/75/16's on my '05 chevy 2500hd for approx 1 year. They currently have approx 8k miles on them.

Waited about 10 full weeks from order to delivery.

They have molding imperfections that I was assured would not be an issue (and havn't been so far)

Within 6 weeks of having them mounted, there was a large balloon bulge about the size of a softball that appeared on my right front tire in the tread portion. Thank God it first appeared when I was stopped and picking my son up from school and not going 70 down the freeway.
(pics are on another computer)

Contacted them with pics of both the outside and inside of the tire and they replaced it at no charge to me, and I had the tire in hand within one week.

They ran fine, not louder than any other MT, nor any quieter.

I monitor my air pressures regularly and keep them and my overload bags on the rear axle all equal. The left rear has worn CONSIDERABLY worse than the rest, with zero reason other than poor construction. It's approx 1/4" more worn in the center of the tread than the other three (which are wearing GREAT IMHO).

It's a toss up. You get what you pay for. At $140 ea, they are considerably cheaper than new MT's of any flavor, but they are not without their issues.

I will not be purchasing another set because I value steering, braking, acceleration, towing, and above all the safety of my family and myself as well as others on the road.
I'm currently researching replacements and going to relegate the last 3 good ones to off road trailer and spare tire usage.

I would say they are not quieter, but the hum my 315-70-17 Guard Dogs put off is far more annoying than any of the 30 other sets of MT tires I have ran. Higher pitched is what I think. Actually will give me a headache after awhile of driving with the windows down.

I agree with the tone, high pitched, not what people expect (not similar to the old MT/R that they look like). I found them both very loud, and an annoying tone. I much prefer a more traditional, low mud tire rumble if I'm going to run a loud tire.

I agree on the high pitched whine (don't think it can be called a hum). That and the weight of the tires will probably drive me back to my previous tire. That said, they've been great on the trail. Their performance on Hole in the Rock, Blanca Peak and Poughkeepsie Gulch was impressive.

I've been running a set for about 3 weeks now on my Cherokee. They are Guard Dog 31x10.5's. My sidewalls are Yokohoma Geolanders. No real problems yet, but only time will tell how they hold up. A lot of guys on cherokee forum run them. I will say that I have heard much better reviews for the class C sidewalls that for other, higher pressure, sidewalls. I am running mine at about 28-29 PSI as my Cherokee is, at this point, still pretty light.

Still love mine. If I had a 1000+ mile trip or something with a lot of highway miles, Id look at a different tire, or a second set of tires. But with that said, Ill keep running these until I cant stand the noise.

Mine are about to go on a 1000+ mile trip and a few days offroad. Will see how they hold up if the noise doesnt kill me.

I guess the noise is relative to the vehicle the tires are mounted on. I've got a Defender Soft Top. It's got just about zero sound deadening or insulating material in it, so the noise isn't even mitigated by closing the windows ...

As I said earlier, noise and weight are my only complaints. Performance has been excellent.

I've had mine for almost a year and about 15,000 miles, wearing good and no separation, going to the SE Rally tomorrow and another trip in VA in two weeks. These will be the 4th and 5th trips on these tires off-road and so far no problems. Knock on wood!
