Hey there

Just wondering if anyone has ever tried out the falcon tunnel awning by james baroud. Any thoughts about it that you can share?

I have the 2.0m awning with tunnel, and a Grand Raid XXL tent. Also the room enclosure. Overall, my family has been happy with this setup.

We have had a few “learnings” along the way:

Several times we’ve had the awning poles stuck in deployed position and couldn’t get them collapsed. This may be us overtightening vs. a product issue... but I fixed this permanently by staking the plastic cam fitting into the aluminum pole with a punch, no issues since then.

The awning rooms walls are not tall enough to reach the ground on my truck, they come up several inches short. It really isn’t a problem since the room is not fully enclosed and thus not weatherproof to start with. I imagine our truck on 37s with the awning mounted inline with the top of the cab is generally on the taller side of most setups.

The tunnel opening can be a little tight depending on how your awning is located vs. the tent, as well as your physical body size. It doesn’t render it unusable, but I generally end up rubbing my back on the tunnel/awning edge interface climbing in or out.

We also had an issue with our tent itself leaking due to a bad fan/shell seal - but we received a new tent for warranty replacement that had been flawless, so no customer service complaints.

Would I do it all again for ~$6100 new? Yes and no. After 2 years and 50ish camping nights, everything is still working and holding up well. However, the tent is getting tight for the 3 of us (7YO, wife, myself) and we likely will have to do something different for a tent next year... which also likely means changing out the awning/tunnel/room setup as well, which is a lot of work/effort on top of the cost.
