Realistic Amount of Miles You Can Expect From an Unlimited

I love Jeeps. Currently drive a 2004 Rubicon with around 95k miles. We need a bigger rig, more storage better seating options. Highly considering an unlimited but my budget puts me in the 90k plus mileage area.

What is the most amount of mileage you have seen on an unlimited? How many trouble free miles can I reasonably expect from one? Trouble free meaning major motor and transmission rebuilds or replacement.

Obviously how it was driven and how it is maintained make the biggest impact so for discussions sake, looking into used non wheeled rig with regular service intervals.

What do you guys think?

In other words go with 2012 or up as you get the penstar motor. With regular maintenance and preventive maintenance the sky is really the limit. Mine is at 65k as I use it. No problems except batteries and that was the clown that put my electronic trailer in brakes on. My buddy who really drives his 2012 to the tune of over 225k has had no issues .

Realistically, any modern car will run basically forever if you're good about maintaining it, provided there's no rust issues or anything. Yeah, it may eventually require some fairly significant repair, but there's no real "end of life" where the whole thing just gives up.

:sombrero: I've read about many '07/08/09 jeeps/w 3.8l v6 running in excess of 150K milles/w minor maintenance--some

Have replaced the water pump, some have had oil loss per month, but

The 3.8l has a very good history with Chrysler for over 25 years--

If you're buying any vehicle in the 90k region--check dealer computer data info (VIN) and carfax-make sure the 4hi/4lo 4wd WORKS !

Mine has been highly modified, but after almost eight years she's still relatively flawless/w low mileage

Ya lays yer money and ya takes yer chances--

Good luck

I have a 2011 JKU with 186,000 on the clock now, running strong and no issues what soever. Keep the fluids clean and the joints greased! From mid may until early December depending on the weather my rig is wheeled at least 3 times a week.

What climate do you primarily operate in? What is the level of your mechanical skills.
There are plenty of 50-50 year old jeeps still running around out there.
They may not have the original powertrains, but still going strong.

When I traded in my JK last month it has 125,000 miles on it and the engine was just fine in it. Proper maintenance and upkeep does wonders to a vehilce

I have a 2102 with the 3.6 and it has 116k on the odo now
only thing Ive had to do was replaced the clutch at 100k and replacing balljoints now.

Some good reading on the 3.8L motor.

http://www.fourwheeler.com/how-to/engine/1508-3-8l-jeep-wrangler-jk-engine-problems/

I had one in my 2010 which was meticulously cared for and maintained and started burning oil with only 30-ishK on the odometer. The manual says 1 quart of oil per 1000 miles is acceptable, I say it's ridiculous from a "modern" engine. I traded my 2010 for a 2013 with the 3.6L and have 45K with no issues.

Check out the above article, it's pretty interesting.

It's good to see some of the mileage people have on their jeeps. My 3.6 is a tad over 3,100 miles. It's still pretty new though.
