Rear bench seats with storage

Has anyone done a custom set-up with rear cargo space, padded bench seats over the rear wheel arches that double as storage lockers ? I am always short-haul transporting large amounts of family here in Cambodia so the extra 4 bums places would be great and I could also use some storage space for bits and bobs .I took out the 7th and 8th fold down side seats in my 1996 LC80 series as I hate them but I am left with the anchor / bolt points to work with.

I have ready access to CHEAP box steel fabricators for framework etc..

I would be interested in seeing any photos.......

yea like the guy above said....a heavy duty suspension, brakes and such are a must. Thats 8-10 people you are talking about = at 150lbs at average thats 1200 to 1500lbs plus the extra storage things that u want to have. You are looking up to 1700lbs! thats a lot!

No...methinks you misunderstood me. I am keeping the rear seat and have removed the spare fold down seats in the cargo bay. I simply want to build some lightweight small bench seats ( with flip top lids to make them lockers ) to take teenage and under kids who weigh no more than 50kg a pop MAX so max extra load would be 200kg . Under the lockers i want to store a snatch strap, tools, some picnic equipment etc.

sorry for the late reply, but ever thought about the foldable side benches of the good old landcruiser troopies e.g. HJ45, HJ47? same system, very easy construction and pretty light weight.
good luck
