Rear Bumper Carrier for Equipment

We designed a carrier for our bumper for our expedition from the Arctic Ocean in Alaska to Argentina. We built it primarily to carry spare fuel cans. We also attached high lift jack points to the chassis in the rear. We decided to travel to Alaska with it to ensure we did not want to make any adjustments etc before we will be powder coating it. We have now traveled up to the Arctic Ocean and are really pleased with the carrier. The carrier was made by Don Knutz in Alberta.

The added advantage of the carrier is that it is lockable and so there is additional security it has added to the camper.

I like the idea that it is lockable. What I don't like, and call me paranoid, is that it is lockable while I am inside.

Re; Lockable

Same here on that one. I have an ARE DCU series and pinned the rear fold down T handle just so I can't get trapped inside. A serious consideration if you ever camp anywhere that security could be questionable-even overnighting in parking lots. My suggestion would be to use a round style lock to pin through the lock hasp in the open position when camped so the carrier cannot be chained or locked closed. Otherwise two tabs could be welded onto the hinge/bumper so when the carrier arms are at 90 degrees they can be locked open.

great suggestions thanks. This is why we have not had it powder coated yet so we can add and modify the carrier, when we get back to Canada. Any other suggestions for improvement are welcomed. We are also considering attaching a swing down table from the carrier.
