Rear carrier swap

I'm looking at ordering a stock rear carrier for my 01 3.5 Sport (going from open to the hybrid LSD) and am looking through the FSM. Is it really necessary to completely disconnect the rear calipers and pull the axle shafts (at which point I might as well replace all the seals, bearings etc) or can I get away with simply sliding the shaft out slightly? I've never pulled a carrier on vehicle before so any tips/trick are helpful. Thanks!

At least 3 inches or so per side so the axle shafts are completely clear of the carrier, it really isn't that hard to do. But why don't you simply grab an open carrier or complete 3rd member from a salvage rig and save a lot on time and having to re-set the gears?

I am grabbing a complete 3rd 4.90 currently and new one is 4.90, only difference is the hybrid lsd. Sorry if I made that confusing.

The carrier means just a carrier, a 3rd member is a complete ring and pinion attached to the carrier and differential, big difference between the two. Are you wanting to order a new one or used one already pulled?

If you wouldn't mind grabbing a price to 37920 I would be much obliged. 2000+ sport with 3.5l should be right on the money. Mostly limited had them but some xls too.

They are fairly plentiful here, let me know when you have the funds to move forward.
