OK I see alot of you using a rear reciever hitch on yer trailers...... WHY

Is it to tow from the rear if ya get stuck ???

I was thinking about just adding a ATV winch that I have to the rear so I can use that if needed

Mines for a bike rack or hitch rack in the event I run out of room. My rear crossmember has been completely replaced so you could tow it out. The M416 and M101's were available with a pintle to tow other trailers ( likely not loaded).

I have not added one yet but I will be when i get some time.
intended uses being:
-Rear winch moint/pull/anchor/extraction point, my winch is the type that mounts in a reciever and I can imagine using it as a anchor point to assist another vehicle that is following behind (trailer still attached to my vehicle of course).
-Both my Father and I tow trailers behind our rigs when we head out to our secret spot, last time it would have been realy handy to be able to tow two trailers with one vehicle as we had problems on the trail.

I use the one on back of my Chaser for a basket rack, where I carry firewood on long week-ends, or use it as a tow point to extract Jeep if I get stuck..I think it is well worth having a hitch point in the rear.

Towing two trailers is legal in many states as long as you don't exceed some specified total length. So towing a boat behind your trailer could be do-able.

i have one on mine if need to haul bike rack or hitch basket but most of all i added to be able to mount my hanging hammock chair like you see on back of trucks and such.

I just bought a couple weld on receiver tubs with rolled lip off ebay.
I plan on using my rear mount for my bike rack, field table, hammock mount and It would be cool to pull my canoe trailer behind.

Kinda a late comer... but I'll agree with everyone. A rear hitch on your trailer can be just as useful as the one on your truck. There are dozens of products on the market that mount on a 2" reciever.

That makes it versatile, as you may want different attachments for different types of trips... like a freedom grill for example if your destination is a tailgate party. I'll bet some of our friends from the south could even enlighten us on how to smoke a brisket while exploring trails. :Wow1:

It also makes a sturdy recovery point.

I know that several folks also use hitch mounted rollers to protect that trailer from some of the scraping on rocks.

I intend to mount the new hitch mounted tire carrier by CBI. On that I'll carry another Trasharoo, or a mountain bike rack...

The list goes on. You can put pretty much whatever you want back there with a reciever hitch.

When done, mine will host a bike rack, or a hitch, or an old vise I lug around. I'm currently wiring a circuit to go back there that would allow a small winch to be inserted. Great for hoisting a deer/elk into a tree, or getting the trailer out of a jam. Pics soon.
