Rear Mounted Winch.

So as not to interfere with the other thread I'll post here with my rear mounted winch.
The winch is fitted above the chassis rails facing forward, the next time I would lower it in between the rails. The way it is fitted I can pull a loop of the drum and double line out the rear using a pulley block. This winch is a 20,000lb / 24volt Tigers winch.



It runs up the centre to sheave that is hard mounted above the gearbox. From there it runs of to the left side to another block before heading out to the front. I know the transfer case is missing (that's being taken care of).



From the block on the left chassis rail the cable enters a 25mm (1") box section so if by chance the cable breaks it doesn't take out pieces on the engine.



On the front the cable exits through a swivel block on the bumper. This block will rotate through 360° in line with the cable pull.



There is a hard point on the other side rail that is mounted to the cross beam behind the bumper that the swivel is fitted to, if I have a really hard pull and need to double line with a block.

When first looking at mounting a winch a took a lead from some Uni-mog setups and even looked at side mounting, facing in and running the cable to a block and then to the front. But then I would have too short a lead and the cable would not wind on the drum correctly. The way it is now it feeds on to the drum with no help from me so as not bunching up.

Dan, the photos and the accompanying description, it all makes sense. Just few questions though, do you have to keep the cable from back to front in a dead straight line so it doesn't put stress on the channel and other supporting stuff when under load? Or pulley's are required when bend is needed?
Also, pulley in the middle is supported by couple of channels which look like welded to the chasis, is it ok to weld there?

The cable needs to be in a straight line with the winch drum so the cable doesn't bunch up on one side. saying that you could angle the winch at the mount position to face the left side block and achieve the same thing but then you would have trouble pulling out back. If the mount is solid enough it would put equal strain on the chassis rails as long as the cable pull is in the centre line.
Centre pulley is actually bolted to the cross member above the gearbox and has a couple of stabilizer legs out to the side chassis rails. These legs are welded to plates that are bolted to the side rails.
