Rear Shock question

So, last fall I had to replace my rear shocks as the old ones were toast. I called my somewhat local Toyota 4X4 shop, told them what I had (which is a 98 Tacoma, with and add-a-leaf) giving about a 2" lift, and I ordered some Bilstein 5125s. They figured on the 10 inch shocks. I installed them, but when the truck was sitting on flat ground, there was only a couple inches of shaft sticking out of the shock housing. I figured that the shock would bottom out before the spring ever hit the bump stop. So I got them to send up some 8 inch shocks. The now I have enough compression travel, but when I lift the truck up, there isn't enough stroke, and the axle hangs on the shocks. Now before I waste more dough on ordering and shipping the wrong shocks again, what would you guys recommend for the right shock? I should also mention that I want to replace the spring pack with the Old Man Emu 2.25" this summer.

Thanx in advance

yeah, i ignored the advice of many others when i was in the same position you're in and got 10" 5125's. i have been bottoming out the left side for a while, i'm sure i shortened its life significantly. the thing with tacomas is they use 2 different length shocks, the right side being slightly longer. in the case of a 2" rear lift, i think it's recommended to use 8" on the left, and the right is like an 8 1/2" travel shock, but i'm not exact on it, and i think you wanna be sure. it's been covered several times on ttora, so it might be worth searching over there if you don't get the answers you need here, or it may be worth contacting on of the forum sponsors like wheelers, demello, or all pro, they likely get asked quite a bit.

Or you can get two 5150s and be done with it...

They are shorter than the short 5125 when compressed and at least as long as the long 5125 extended. Same shock works for both sides.

5125s went in the trash.

You're going to have to be more specific. I assume you are talking about the BF5-A195-H1? It appears that it doesn't have the necessary travel for the passenger side (8.33" to the BE5-6253-H5's 8.6".) If you move to the BF5-A196-H1 (10" travel) it's longer than the named 5125's compressed.

Previously I had the 5125s that are touted as being "good for 0-1" of lift"

I now have OME Dakars and (2) F4-BF5-A195-H1 5150 Bilsteins in the rear. They're longer than the long 5125 extended, shorter than the short one collapsed... they got compared in the garage floor before I mounted them up...
