Rebuilding Mitsubishi Montero Aisin Locking Hubs

Just wanted to add to the knowledge base.

I found these hubs on a Gen 1 short wheelbase Montero in the junkyard, cleaned them up and they fit perfectly on my Gen 2.5.

This paint closely matched the original gray color (Dark Machine Gray 7587).

Very lighted coated the internals with this after cleaning out the old grease.

I picked up 2 of each of the following at the Toyota dealership:

O-ring (fits around locking hub dial)--part# 43532-60010
Hub gasket (round, fits between locking hub body and wheel hub)--part# 43531-60010
Spindle gasket (star shaped, fits between locking hub body and locking hub cover)--part# 43422-60020

Torque Specs (per 1987 Montero FSM):
Locking hub body to wheel hub: 36-43 ft-lbs.
Locking hub cover to locking hub body: 7-10 ft-lbs.

www.wabfab.org also sells gaskets and small parts for rebuilding Aisin hubs.

Hope this helps someone.

Putting the G in RGB
Very helpful! Thank you for adding to the general knowledge, at least mine. Does anybody know what models these came on? I have read they can be pulled from old Mighty Max PUs, and I guess some Gen I Monteros as well, judging from this post.

Post up if you notices an MPG improvement.

Only the ones on older Mitsu 4x4's work. Mostly Mitsu pickups (including the old Dodge D50 rebadged mitsu's) but some of the Montero's may have them because some owners have swapped them over.

Some of the toyota parts are interchangeable as has been noted on this thread like the paper gasket that goes between the hub and the vehicle, etc. but most aren't.

HTH.

Check the older mazda 4x4's. Same parts as the mitsus. They look identical to the hubs that were on my old b2600.

I haven't compared them but I seriously doubt they fit... but you're welcome to prove me wrong.
After doing a quick check it appears the mazda's are 26 spline (left image) while Mitsu's are either 28 or 25 spline (right image... unsure which is the outer side)...

Now, some of the parts may be interchangeable.

Looks like they do have different spline counts. Maybe the dials and face still the same. Just another option for parts?
