A small lawnmower 12 volt battery connected in parallel with your tank will trigger the charger. The excessively high current will dissipated by your tank and will not affect the battery.

Just a quick follow up. I’m having a lot of fun with this electrolysis deal. I did a rover block too, and should be dunking the SBC this afternoon.

Waiting to see what it does size wise to the main bearing and cam bores. What are you salting the bath with?

I’ll be checking all the bore dimensions. I’m betting that it won’t do anything the rust didn’t do. The chemistry is only reducing iron oxide, not changing iron at all. It can always be line bored if needed.

I used baking soda that I cooked in an oven for an hour or so to drive off the hydration and co2. Next time I might buy washing soda, but I literally spent about $3.50 on 6 lbs of baking soda, so... I don’t want to lose that investment?

My kind of shenanigans. I did a vinegar-baking soda bath in a bucket to re-rust my original torsion bar keys. And a similar anode-cathode homebrew setup on a really cruddy milsurp rifle bore.
