Recovery Bag options (other than an ARB bag)...

I have been using the white 20L waterproof bags I found at walmart in conjunction with a hunters box 18"x 37" for the larger items (chains etc). I carry a couple straps and and shackles in the rack storage area on the Xterra.

They have worked great so far

Just check out you local Army Navy Store. If it's a good one, they will usually have Mechanics bags. Just make sure you get the canvas ones, not the nylon. It will last longer.

That's exactly what I was about to suggest. I got this 20" bag. Plenty of room for straps inside with pockets outside.

I disagree. The only GI bags I've personally seen are nylon, and they're far superior than the imported canvas type. I understand there are some older actual GI canvas bags out there but I haven't seen them. IMO stay away from the current manufacture canvas bags. I made the mistake of buying a Rothco bag about 12 years ago and it faded and fell apart with a quickness. Uncle Sam's nylon tool bags I used and personally owned GI nylon bags I use are FAR superior to the imported canvas bags.

So, just look for a "Made in USA" sticker?

I should point out that, as with any type of gear or product, you get what you pay for. If you really want durability and security, you can always go with a cheap, steel tool box.
