Red Bluff - MTNF Potosi District

Gabby (dog) and I went down to the Mark Twain National Forest for the weekend. Booked a site at Red Bluff camp ground on Huzzah Creek and headed out Friday after work. No real agenda, other then getting out into the woods.

The campsite ended up being very nice. Three small sites separate from the main loop that was another mile or so down the road. Had it mostly to myself, though the other two sites were occupied Saturday night.

The weather was UNBELIEVABLE. Highs in the mid 80's and lows in the upper 50's! We just do not get temps like these in July, very rare.

Anyway, we got up Saturday morning and spread out the maps. We headed over to Dillard Mill (built in 1908).

The view from our camp site:

We also visited a few high points in the area, Camel Hump and Bald Knob (how could I not visit a place that is listed as Bald Knob on the map...). Neither were worthy of a picture though.

On Sunday we met up with a couple guys from St. Louis in Potosi to run some trails/back roads in the Palmer area of the MTNF. Pretty good day, but I didn't take any pictures.

Looks very nice I will have to check it out. Im in northwest arkansas and spend most of my outdoor time in the Ozark National Forest near Cass. The pics look like I should head north and check it out! :smiley_drive:

The lower midwest states ExPo numbers are growing, we ought to get together and put together an Ozark back road trip over a long weekend sometime in the fall or spring. A lot of the campgrounds in MO are over run during the summer weekends, but late in the year or just after the weather breaks in the spring you can have them all to yourself.
