Regular Cab Tacoma as overland vehicle? Thoughts?

Have you done any lengthy road trips in your Taco? I drove my '04 7 hrs on a road trip and about 2/3 way through realized how much it sucked - for me, because of lack of seat adjustability. Everything else was fine and I truly loved that truck, but I was not looking forward to the ride home. But if you've done long trips and find it acceptable, by all means - enjoy and use it!

I put some old civic seats in my 2002 tacoma for this reason. Now long trips don't bother me at all and I can adjust my seat any way I want!

No, I haven't done any long trips yet. Maybe 3 hours. I am short (5'6") So leg room isn't really an issue. Are you talking about lumbar adjustments, up/down of the seat? The other issue I've been thinking about is that you can't recline the seat back far if I wanted to pull over and take a snoozer. Kind of sucks.

I have read a lot online of people replacing their seats. From the short 1 to 2 hour trips I've gone on they seem fine. Are they really that uncomfortable on long trips? Are there certain seats that fit better? (like your civic seats) I have bucket seats with head rests that recline. Center console. So it's not a crappy bench seat...

i have a 2013 reg cab with the bench seat and have done 8+ hour drives and have been fine. im 6ft tall and have plenty of room. if you want to nap just lay down on the bench man.

For me, it was the lack of seatback adjustment, lack of thigh support. I was fine with everything else. I truly loved that truck and doing 2-3 hrs in it was fine, as was daily driving, but that 7-hr trip I was very uncomfortable. I'd encourage you to try a long trip 1st, see if it works for you - it may be perfectly fine.

That's why you have a bed, lots of room to lay down for a power nap! I think you will do just fine, I've done long hauls in my 83 and I'm 6'5". It's tight but not to bad, your truck would be a lot more comfortable.

Well that's my other concern...sleeping arrangements lol. I'm still trying to figure out if I want a roof top tent, hard shell roof tent or slide in truck camper. I want something that I can just pull over and sleep in after driving all day. I won't always be at campgrounds. I really want a slide in camper but they're expensive. As for my bed I will most likely have all my gear in there. No room for sleeping.

build a sleeping platform in the bed and keep your storage underneath. there's a thread on here with great storage ideas.

^This is exactly the truth. Even still, reg cabs kick ***. Always have, always will. New springs and aligned mine today!
