removing 12v fridge - advice needed

Actually I have already done it - I removed a 12v fridge from my sportsmobile and capped the wires.
now my cabin lights (which run on the 2nd battery) don't stay on for more than 30s - so this would indicate that the 2nd battery isn't charging. I'm wondering what kind of problem I have cause and how I might fix it...

this is a 1988 SMB and I want to gut it and build it to suit my needs. I would be removing a water pump and a couple of other things that run off the 2nd battery.

my questions: is it ok to simply remove something and cap the wires? or am I screwing up my 12v system?

also: is there a general reference (either a book or website) that anyone would suggest for learning about this stuff?

thanks in advance!

Just removing it and capping the wires won't cause any problem...

Unless you tied the wires *together* when you capped them?

no, just capped wires. capped and taped.
So if I do this to a couple more things (a water pump for instance) I should be fine right? (fine in terms of not screwing things up)...

Yeah, simply removing stuff and capping the wires shouldn't mess anything up.

As for your battery not charging, you probably have an issue somewhere in the wiring coming from your alternator or your isolator (maybe you accidentally touched a wire to ground while removing the fridge and popped a fuse somewhere?). You'll need to get out a voltmeter and trace through your wiring checking for an open connection somewhere.

Were there just two wires at the connection? One white or red and one black. If there were two or more of each color, those need to be tied back together and capped and taped.
