Jeep Renegade pricing has been revealed.

The basic, entry-level Renegade with 1.4L turbo gas engine, 6 speed manual and 4x4 will start at $20,000. That's about $1000 cheaper than the Nissan Juke AWD, and $2500 cheaper than the Chevrolet Trax with AWD.

The offroad-oriented Trailhawk model, with 2.4L Tigershark four cylinder, 9 speed automatic, and low range with 20 to 1 crawl ratio, starts at $26,000. That's $4000 cheaper than the Cherokee Trailhawk, which has the same engine and transmission.

I think the pricing is very good. Hopefully the content and quality will be as well. Good looking Jeep.

One reason the Renegade is priced lower is the short list of standard equipment. For example, air conditioning is an option, not standard as on several competitors.

On and off road "first drive" articles are beginning to appear through the usual online sources. One remark in common to the reviews is how well the Renegade handles on the road. The Renegade is sporty, with accurate steering, compliant suspension and good shock damping. Koni shocks are standard.

For such a small vehicle, the Renegade has decent interior room. The storage space behind the first row is about 50 cu ft. In comparison, the considerably larger Jeep Cherokee has 54 cu ft. The Juke has only 36 cu ft, the MINI Countryman 42 cu ft. The Chevrolet Trax has 48 Cu ft. None of these vehicle has enough interior length for a bed platform without removing the front passenger seat.

The room in the Juke was laughable, and the interior materials were pathetic. I am surprised at the mere 4cu.ft difference between the Cherokee and the Renegade... that's nuts. Which space is more usable though? If I had to guess I'd say the renegade again, since it's cargo area looks like a large box. A little sad the seats don't fold completely flat though.

The Renegade is built in Italy, on the same assembly line as the Fiat 500X. Fiat plans to sell the 500X in USA, and has recently released prices.

The base model (Pop) is not available with AWD. The next trim level is Easy, which does offer AWD as an option. The price is $24,200, including 2.4L engine, 9 speed automatic, AWD, air conditioning, 17 inch alloys, Sirius XM radio, a 5 inch touchscreen control panel, and destination charge Ground clearance is 7 inches.

The base Renegade costs $21,000, including destination charge. It has a 1.4L engine, 6 speed manual, no air conditioning, no XM radio, and steel wheels.
