Thanks for the comments. I was able to get some more stuff done over the holidays and managed to have some "adventure" as well....
For the holidays I headed to Northern California to spend time with family and had an adventure on the way there. After passing into Nevada on my way out I felt a pop and developed a little shimmy in the wheel. The shimmy quickly went away and the low tire pressure light never came on so I drove on for a few miles . As I continued on I noticed that the steering wheel would shimmy and vibrate again in my had every time a made a gentle turn on the freeway. I figured I had a flat tire so I pulled off in Wells, Nevada to take a look. As I made the 90 degree right hand turn off the on ramp the whole truck was shaking. I pulled into a Burger King parking lot to see if I could see anything. All the tires looked good and there did not appear to be any damage or leaks coming from the suspension and axels. As I was walking around the truck a second time I found that I was missing 4 of the 5 lug nuts on the front driver’s side wheel. When I got down and looked I found that I had sheared the 4 wheel studs completely off. Unfortunately I have no pictures of that. Since it was 8 PM on a Saturday I knew I was pretty much screwed for the night. The closest Toyota dealer was in Elko aprox 4 hours away. Furthermore, since it was Sunday I figured even if I got towed there I would have to wait till at least Tuesday before any parts would be able to arrive. So I called my Dad and told him the situation and he agreed to drive the 10+ hours out from California with h trailer. So I had to bite my pride and get rescued by a Dodge. We also figured out that the Tundra was about 3in too wide to really fit on the trailer without driving on the unrated fender. Dad said “F it. I drove out here so let’s just do it,” and I was up on the trailer. After massaging the fender back into position, we were on the way home. All 5 wheel studs were replaced at a shop in California where I was told “Eh, it happens” when asking about wheel studs sheering off. Most likely cause was due to the lug nuts being over tightened with an impact gun causing the wheel studs to weaken and fail. Unfortunately for me, the truck was in two separate shops (Alcans, and 4.88/LSD installs)in the two months prior to the trip. Once fixed, everything looked good and I drove back to Colorado with no issues. However, last night when picking up a buddy at the airport he announces as I jump out to help with bags, “Bro, your missing a lug nut…” Freaking awesome. I have now sheared one of the wheel studs on the front passenger side. I have also learned to always hand tighten the lug nuts when putting the wheels on.
