Anyone have any experience with the communication features of this gps/coms unit? Does the messaging go over the gps signal or only the frs/gmrs signal?

GPS signal is one way so no its not going over the satellite. its going over the FRS/GMRS radio. Seem a bit pricey for a GPS and frs/gmrs combo radio. With a range of just a couple of miles.
Sad they didnt mention that you needed a license to operate on some of the channels.
