Awesome build and pictures.

Thanks Bretthn! It's still a journey but I think it may be coming time to retire this dog in the next year or two. The 2016 Chevy Colorado Diesel is looking more and more enticing... We'll see after the first generation motor gets its run through.

Hey Richard! Looks like a great trip, and as usual great pictures. Looks like you guys had a lot of fun. You're really lucky to be able to get out and explore with all these great people in the industry.

Thanks Wreck! I can't beat your photos though...

It was just coincidence that I linked up with Goose Gear and Dave from AAV. Pretty fortunate to be apart of the community as I've had nothing but excellent experiences with AAV. Come down to one of the Rendezvous next time! It's worth the weekend :D

The rig is looking great, Richard. Hopefully we can hookup on another trip someday. I haven't been as active as I should be on here, but maybe we can setup something towards SoCal fairly soon.

Just caught up on your build! Everything you've done is so practical and purpose-driven. I love this truck. It's the perfect little desert roamer. Nicely done, sir. Nicely done.

Have you had good experience with the amber lights so far? I picked up a single row 10" amber LED for my front bumper, as much as I dislike LEDs. But just like we both have a modified Xoskel, clearly the practicality of LED vs incandescent is just too great to ignore.

Thanks! Yeah DV was a pretty fun trip. I do prefer the forested areas up north over desert but hopefully I'll see you on the next outing!

I haven't gotten any ambers up front yet. I'm still running the 6" 3000K HID kit on the bumper. I haven't found a decently priced one yet, but I still like the round light look on the Xterra. The LED bar up top really just spreads the light out in all forward directions. The halogens were never able to do that. I still would like to find an Amber roof bar or a combo of the two up top though.

Heck I haven't even used the lights off-road yet so i can't say how good they are.

Replaced my brake pads two days ago. Powerstop carbon ceramic pads from Rock Auto. My old pads lasted about 20k-ish and were worn a little past halfway and were grinding quite a bit. Quite a hefty 20k so I'm satisfied with the wear. The rotora are still spot on.

Ordered a different light bar for the roof and some amber 6" led units to replace the 6" round HID retrofits on the bumper. They've been just a headache and somewhat unreliable. Goes to show you the QC of inexpensive HIDs.

The new bar is a single row bar with 10w LEDs I stumbled across on Amazon. The outer 3 LEDs are amber and the inner are a cool white. Stated rating at around 15,000 lumens, compared to the rated 18,000 lumens of my current bar. I've got some whistling windnoise that has bothered me so I'm trying this new bar out. I may have a 32" LED bar for sale soon.

The 6" LED bars will have 5w LEDs and be amber. I'm contemplating the mounting location in the upper part of the grill just below the hood line (modifying the grill to fit the LED for an OEM look) , or mount them on the underside of the bumper on either side of the license plate.

Should be delivered tomorrow by end of day. I'll be heading out to big bear at the end of the month for a little wheelin and camping. Trip frequency has really been cut down as I've been saving up for the next chapter in my life. The itch to head out into the mountains/desert is still there but priorities come first. A 180-degree change in career and taking the next big step with the girlfriend are in the works.

Until the next adventure...

I'm excited to see what you do with the new lights. I have such a soft spot for amber LEDs.

Good luck with the next big chapter!

That is positive news on all fronts, congrats! I hear you on the frequency of the trips but other things in life also need attention at times, gotta keep it all within reason :) I'm usually up for a weekend trip so hit me up whenever you have the chance to get out.

I began looking for a single row LED bar to eliminate the windnoise above the cabin and also have an amber section to soften the sterile white. After browsing Amazon for a bit, I came across a single row, 32-5/8" long, 10W each LED bar. The outer two sections are amber while the inner sections retain the white. It came with some beefier brackets than I've seen on other cheap bars, and some better hardware as well. It's pretty heavy, weighing in at about 10lbs or so but has some very adequate aluminum heat sinks on the back end of it. I'll be taking a few night pictures tonight after I get home.

I've also got a set of 6" amber LED bars to replace the bumper mounted HIDs. That will be installed later this week. Those have 5W LEDs each and are a single row as well.

Also, I just found a picture I've been looking for. You mentioned a hidden winch mount; this guy who goes by "Mirage" on XterraNation had one made a few years ago that's fully welded together and bolts directly onto the frame to be removable. It's really clean.

You just HAD to post up a hidden winch mount... Now I have to go source some metal and get it welded together... Lol

And damn that looks pretty darn slick. I like the bolt on method instead of welding straight to the frame. Although not as strong, itd be easier to remove and sell later. Just slap on some grade 8 hardware and you're good to go.
