I was going through my pictures and saw this picture and remembered why I took a picture of it. So, I wish to share this story and ask other people's experience about such an encounter on the freeway.
I was driving on a 2 lane road in SD when I came up behind this RV. We were on a no passing area, so I was just cruising waiting for a straight stretch where I will pass it. But on the straight road, another vehicle was coming, so not safe to overtake. Then I as soon as that car passed, I thought let me check if I can pass now, that is when the RV dashed into oncoming my lane blocking me!!! Then at that split second, before it almost fishtailed, I saw what looked liked a rabbit or beaver or squirrel cross the road under the RV. I slammed on my brakes!!! And the RV almost lost control of itself. The driver was lucky as I just thought that vehicle would fish tail and flip.
How many of you would be doing 70mph and suddenly see an animal like that running across the road and try to avoid it? Or what do you do in that situation?
When I left Ouray for Colorado Springs, I was on a 2 lane road also and doing 60mph when suddenly out of the corner of my left eye I saw what seemed like a small bird flying into my path. In that split second, I said oh no, please do not do it. I said this as I braced myself for impact and all I could hear was a thump as it hit my windshield letting off a few feathers as I opened my eyes and mouth wide and held firm firm on the steering wheel keeping it straight! I couldn't see what way it went. I slowed down, but did not stop. No crack on windshield.
