Roadside Light Tower Trailer

I drive a truck for a living. This gives me plenty of time to think about and dream of the perfect off road trailer. I want to build it up slowly as funds are available but I need a starting point. I was noticing that these light towers (combination generator and 4 flood lights on an extendable pole) that you see in construction zones would make a perfect sized base from witch to build. Also good ground clearance and stabilizers for possible RTT.

So…

Here are my questions. Where would I find out who manufactures these trailers -- I mean just the frame and axle not the generator and light portion. Where would I find one of these for sale? Would it be possible that there is a unit somewhere that the generator has shot craps and maybe it could be separated from the frame?

What to you all think? Good place to start or should I keep on dreaming?

Something like this. Less the generator and lights.

I have thought of this also and though its a greatr Idea it would be to small for my needs. I would start by looking at auctions or if you have any buddys in the construction biz they might have seen one in the back lot of an construction yard.

I work construction and now is a good time to start looking for them because in California they just started newer more strick smog laws for diesels. Most of the light towers and job compressors run off diesel engines and use the same size trailers and frames. My company had to upgrade its pull behind compressors because the older ones wont pass the new smog laws and now they are just sitting in the back of the yard.

Any info on what they are planning on doing with them? My company might be interested.

So what size trailer ya' thinking about there MadMax?...:smiley_drive:

Like the size of the M416 military 1/4 ton trailers (4'x6' I think) but don't want to pony up the dollars to purchase one. Really just want the frame and axle for a starting point to build from.

Gotcha!....check the local and/or State highway auctions for the flashing sign boards they use along the roads...you may also find one with working solar panels on the top!

Good luck, Pat

Ps I think 805gregg is probably right

Kept the thread alive! I’ve been looking at the following for a trailer build: light tower , compressor and Police radar trailer. They all seem like viable candidates.
