Rock crawling in the LX last month

Went with some jeep buddies to Black Mountain trails in Harlan, Kentucky about a month ago. Made a video. Didn't do too bad but I did not make it out of the Lower Rock Garden. I didn't air down and I was timid on the skinny pedal because I have watched too many videos of other demolishing their front diff. Kinda slow but the end is pretty cool.

Nice video. So what if you didn't make it all the way, you were out there in your Hundy and giving it a good go!

Getting kids out of the house and onto the trail is what it's all about. Looks like good times :bike_rider:

it looks like you had the suspension extended.

if you did, dont.

it stiffens up and while you get an extra inch, you lose articulation, and that hurts the atrac, in my opinion. the atrac works better with as much pressure on each tire as possible, its not a locker. the optional lift is good for snow and mud, not rocks.

second, keep the tire spin low, and give the atrac time to work, and if getting close, but not quite clearing, use both feet and modulate the brake with the left.

when that fails, take a rope. the stock skid plates are pathetic. if you dont want to sink a ton of money into the truck, buy skids before anything.

Zimm, it's at 1998 so no atrac. I have 2" ironman lift and skids along with rocker guards are next on my list. Followed by front and rear arb lockers then a front bumper.

nice, i was considering ironman springs when i ditch the height control. i carry plenty of weight so 400lb plus rears may be in order. what stiffness did you buy?

First shoot your spotter, then shoot the person taking the video :)

Seriously, nice to see more families out off road. My 7 year old girl sits in the same position and also loves it!

Not sure if the Atrac thingy would work with you applying a power brake technique but it looks like it would have served you well. Good on you for taking the family out in the woods.

I'd move sliders to the top of your list if you are gonna play in that stuff. You can beat up the bumpers all day if you are going to replace them, but man, that rocker sheet metal is expensive to straighten out.

get some rocker guards and let me know the next time you go and i'll spot you. that was hard to watch. one of the worst spotters ive ever seen

"you've got the right line you just have to get over a 6" ledge"

oh no, it will "disengage" it. youre overriding the ABS.

its purely anecdotal, but what i noticed in a good bit of instances, is the atrac will get you 90% of the way, then the stuttering of the ABS will cause a slip and you slide back down the obstacle. after 2-3 times of almost clearing its frustrating, so what i started to do was, notice where the traction was giving up the ghost, and then lightly apply the brake in a much slower on/off. it seemed to really make a difference in muddy wet roots, where the spinning tire with no traction at all, could easily be dragged without hindrance.
