Roof Cargo box Options?

I like storm cases too -- but I don't think they come in other colors (not a big deal for most).

I have had good luck and years of service from my cargo box:
The Thule side kick is a little shorter and wider, but neither are matching your width requirements.
I think you may not find a cargo box wide as you require. Perhaps a cargo bag and a basket if needed?

- x2 on everything HenryJ says, and depending on where you live you can find them cheap on Craigslist. I think the Sears boxes are re-badged Thule boxes. These might be your best option for your size vehicle. I have been looking for a used smaller one like these for a while for the Saab, and I will say they are a little harder to come by than the larger boxes.

The company I work at uses both Pelican and Storm - We use a lot of them, but mostly Pelicans. I think the Storm's are a little lighter than the Pelicans, and that could be a factor for roof loading.

Like MoGas, I also use the combo of the Rocket box and baskets -

PVC is pretty tough! Filled with expansion foam and attached better it's not so bad

They used Zarges Boxes for the Camel Trophy along with Pelican Cases.

I've used the Yakima Basket Case on my Thule rack for many years. It's helped extend the capacity of my XJ, a not-too-big vehicle. It's a simple item, and has survived a lot of hard use on my 1988 Cherokee.



I thought about using three rails and two basket cases, and I think the post above showing it in practice looks super. For not an awful lot of money one gets a flexible and transferable racking system.

I've seen the ARB roof racks, and they seem strong. I've liked all the stuff I've gotten from ARB over the years, but these are too big, and too specialized for my taste.

It's common for utility vehicle racks in Europe to have rollers on the back edge, to aid stuff going on and off. I've seen it here in the US, but it's less common. I like the idea where longer items need to be handled, especially solo.

go to the local sheet metal place and have them make one just the size you need, they should be able to make a lid with a lip that you can add some weather striping too to make it water tight.

I use to have this guided missile storage box in my roof rack on my old FJ60.
Its water tight, and I added a lock to it. It was too big, I use it to store camping eq inside it in the garage now.
