Roof top tent with surfboard

There are a few threads around with folks looking for ways to carry a surfboard but not having to remove it for tent deployment. This is what I came up with.

I mounted the tent towards the back of my ARE DCU topper then bought one Q Tower set with Q16 clips($220) from amazon.

Damn blurry pictures

Bonus question: I have rented boards on past trips and this is the first time I'm hauling one. Any tips on board security when driving down south.

I have a 4Runner and carry a softtop long board when we go to the beach with our RTT. I made a set of 1.5" spacers that fit between the yakima towers and the stock roof rack rails. The surfboard gets stuffed under the tent between the roof. I probably wouldn't recommend doing that with a solid board (or one you really cared about) but for the softtop board it gets the job done and it keeps things low and simple. Nice solution!

Nice solution - just wish my 80 was longer ha - I'm waiting for Tepui to get their hard top RTT going so I can put boards on top of that. For locking up, I use the Yakima RipCord, REI is having their used gear sale today. That's where I got mine a couple years ago. You might be able to find yourself a pair on the cheap(er)
