Rovers of Nantucket

Well, after a month and a half spent on Nantucket this summer, I figured I would catalog as many Land Rovers as I could. While these trucks don't see the miles of offroad use that most members put on, they do venture into deep sand regularly and the island probably has the densist population of Rovers in the world. Didn't bother snapping shots of the newer models, but there were a lot of vinage rovers. This is only a handful.

The most unique: a tan D130 crew cab with camel trophy brush bar, superwinch husky, mantec snorkle, aluminum roof rack, and great patina. Saw it many times, but could never get it on camera. Missed a 1950s International that was very Suburban-like with roof rack and PTO winch. Enjoy.

Very cool, I especially liked the last series in your list of pictures. Too bad the high humidity and sea air destroys them. They should all be out West, preferably in Burbank where I can take good and proper care of them.

So why are there so many LRs on Nantucket? I noticed a bunch when I was there (back in the 80s), so they've had a serious LR population for a long time. I just never learned why that was.

cheers

I must have the mind of a 14 year old; all I can think of when I see the title of this thread is the Nantucket limmerick :sombrero:

I've been to Nantucket many times with my family. It's one of my favorite places. I think I caught the rover bug there!
Thanks for the pics.

Same here, which caused me to look up that line on wikipedia, to see what they had to say about it. They actually have an blurb about it.

That place amazes me

We spent a little over a week there again this summer and saw all of those as well as a few more 90s.

It seems as if there was a dealership there a while ago who supported a lot of the old ones. They went belly up long ago, but as stated ECR takes care of a lot of the clients.

It was amazing to see that many cool Defenders in on place, 90s, 110, a 130 crew cab, and a few others of interest.

Thanks for posting the pictures.
