RTT Access through Sun Roof

Hello!

long time lurker here. I have a 5th gen 4R with a RTT mounted on a rack. I noticed that the RTT covers all of my sunroof and since on 4R the sunroof slides in between the headliner and car roof.. I would be able to access my tent if there was a hole in the bottom. Something like the Ursa Minor pop ups on the Nissan Elements.

has anybody done this? I’ve seen build threads on here where folks bolted tents directly to their roofs on ambulances/vans. They then cut a huge hole for a pop up camper style.

I guess my thoughts were in between to be a pop up for sleeping but not stand up in. I don’t think I’m ready to cut into my 4R haha but on a older RTT - sounds mighty tempting.

I’m not really sure what to do about the tiny gap between the car roof and tent hole either since the tent is sitting on a platform rack (rhino rack).

I have offered up my 4Runner to Ursa Minor for doing a prototype build, but they don’t think there would be enough people interested in cutting up there roof. Ever since I seen Andrew St Pierre White’s green troopy I’ve fallen in love with this option. Biggest reason why I just joined the waiting list for the Bronco and the Ursa Minor top there planning for production.

yup!! I reached out to them too about possibility of creating a universal option since I assumed there are other SUVs with the same sunroof mechanism as the 4R. No go from them either
