RTT and Awning problems (FJ Cruiser)

Hi forum,

I installed a Bajarack Expedition rack on my FJ Cruiser with a CampingLab RTT (55x94) and a 78" ARB Awning using Bajarack mounting bracket and I've got 2 problems with it.

First: On the side of the awning I can't install the rods for the rain fly because the awning is too high.

Second: Unzipping and zipping back the tent is a real nightmare, I can hardly get my fingers between. I used the tent with the awning installed for the first time last night and this morning it was impossible to close the zipper, we even had to remove the awning.

So I'm wondering if anyone else has the same setup, same problems and you deal/dealt with them.

The options we have so far are either adding spacers behind the awning (would have to be at least 1" or push the RTT 2" to the other side. In both cases I don't know if it will be enough to fix the rods problem.

Eric,

I have the same problem. I have an ARB Simpson III on a Baja Touring Rack W/ an ARB awning in the Baja mounts.

For the first problem I used the Baja Racks awning mount and it has 2 small holes that I assumed were for the rainfly. Brackets can probably be made to stick up above the awning so you can mount the bracket W/ holes. It's loose, but works. If you need pictures send me a PM with your e-mail (a lot easier than posting to photo bucket).

As for the second problem I can assume you are talking about the zipper that 'floats' in the track at the base of the tent. It tends to bunch up and make it hard to zip when you have to squeeze between the tent and the awning. I just use the needle nose pliers on my leatherman and it works out just fine assuming you put the tent away AFTER the tent is stowed.

I hope I helped.

-Ben

PS: Post pics of the FJ!!
