RTT cold weather?

Hi, first post so be kind please.
well i am in the process of planning for a possible build for a lightweight(ish) camping trailer and am wondering if there are any cold weather specific roof top tents or tents which handle the cold better than others. for those interested here is a bit of back story about what i am planning on doing i would either get a trailer with an opening lid and adding canvas sides so that it becomes a little like a trailer tent thing (my long time girl friend doesn't like camping and it is an attempt to get her outdoors camping under the stars (her idea of roughing it is in a fully furnished static caravan , mine is in bivouac with the minimal amount of stuff)). my other idea is getting a slightly smaller trailer and putting a roof mounted tent up on top of it.

thanks in advance for any help and reading my wondering delirious waffle.

Sam

ps im not talking Arctic conditions just cold weather around 0 degrees C and wind chill

Hello Sam, welcome to the forum.
Probably the warmest tents will be the Maggiolina ones from Auto home.
Reason being they are around 36" or so tall inside and the walls are all vertical thus having less room inside to heat up.

I have the AirLander model by them and have never been chilled in mine.

Thanks for the replies, i shall have look do you have any links?

also a new revelation we were talking yesterday and t turns out she is actually quite keep on the idea of camping, even though she has never been because of her parents way of bringing her up, so it looks like a easy introduction into camping is on the horizon.

Here is their US site, these tents are made in Italy since 1958, so they have been around a very long time.

The various Maggiolina models are at this link with my model being the most aerodynamic on the roof.

Good luck on getting her out to camp.

Here is a thread with some of their videos I posted awhile back with the first video being a history on them.

my tip for the girlfriend: get a one liter Nalgene bottle. When it gets cold(er): fill it with boiling water, put it in a sock and throw it in her sleepingbag

she will be warm the entire night :wings:

Cody, seriously, did she have any regrets? I kinda think its romantic, especially if thats what you both love doing.

June of 11; We were on a river toobing trip with all our friends, the ring and proposal were kind of a formality anyways. Wedding was already 90% planned at that point. But, regrets? No way. She's now 6mos pregnant with our first baby (boy!!).
