RTT for my Cayenne

I am getting a lot of grief over at the Porsche Cayenne forum about using Thule bars. They are maintaining the the weight of the tent and people will dent the roof. Anyone have experience using "foot"style cross bars and a RTT? The Thule fit guide states this type of set up has a 110 lb weight limit. This solution has a maximum weight limit of 110 lbs.

Does anyone know if that weight limit is per bar or the pair? I think this plan is not going well.

I am certainly not an engineer, so take this for what you paid for it, i can't imagine the roof denting in, especially using the correct mounting system. I would want to believe that the roof system of that vehicle is built to withstand the weight of the vehicle on it. Not necessarily flipping and rolling and smashing in the roof, but there has to be some level of safety and strength built into the roof.

The Rino Rack bars that i ended up using are very light yet sturdy and have many different configurations for different types of mounting systems.

I would have to disagree about denting the roof if mounted correctly.

Mike -- Do the posters on that BBS you mentioned have RTTs on their vehicles? We have fitted nearly 3,000 tents on all types of vehicles and NEVER had one dent or damage the roof due to tent or occupant weight.

The Thule weight limits are total dynamic load limits - more about braking, handling and center of gravity than about what the vehicle roof can tolerate. These limits are, IMO, very conservative. But we follow them to the letter.

If I was you I'd pick a light weight, hard shell tent, mount it on Thule bars and be happy.
