Im tossing around either a tow behind pop-up or a RTT mounted in the bed. Curious if you have an RTT mounted in the bed of your pick-up, if you could post some pics.

pros and cons of having it mounted to the bed rails as well.

Interesting.

I had thoughts of something like this. I have a full size chevy and would like to have a RTT mounted just above the wheel wells. Could use underneath for storage.

Will be watching this one....

I have thought of mounting one on my bed rails and using the space underneath for storage, then hauling my bike on my trailer. I just have a hard time paying that much for a tent...lol

I believe it would need to be mounted above the rails in order to deploy. Unless your going to have it open towards the rear.

I wouldnt mind getting in on the sale right now...but timing is off.

You sort of loose the utility of the pick-up bed for hauling anything?

Everything I normally would take camping fits in the bed. It would fit right under the RTT mounted on Yakima bars attached to false raingutters bolted to the bed rails.

Yes..storage and getting to things could be an issue.

I have my Simpson 3 RTT mounted on a Thule xsporter rack. The rack is "collapsible" and has about six different spots you can lock it down at. I have it at the lowest slot and the tent just peeks above the cab. But if ever the need should arise I could just grab a buddy (or 3) and slide it up to the highest slot and i would have all the bed space back.....best of both worlds I think. I'll take some pics tomorrow and post 'em.

This is what I did with my Camping Lab RTT (before I built my trailer).
I had 4xInnovations fab a set of cross-bars for me. My setup had to be high enough to clear my spare tire carrier. That left me with plenty of room underneath.

I like that.

How do you feel about the weight on those tracks? Ever have any issues?

Yes..room underneath is a must. In my truck, all my gear loaded in tubs, cooler, and chairs doesnt come much above the bed rails. Access is another thing to keep in mind also.

i love those prerunner style tailgates... is yours reversable so the tire hangs out the back?

OF COURSE!

That's a 1-off custom also built for me by 4xInnovations. He planned to start producing them, until he was contacted by TireGate's lawyers who threatened to sue him if he made any more of them...
