RTT mounting on frame w/ overhang

Is there any reason NOT to build my RTT mounting frame a little bit wider than my tent? A few reason I am want to do this is my trailer is wider than the tent, so I will have some extra storage room on the frame, and the part of the tent that flips out will also be supported by about 6" of the frame to give it some extra support, beside the ladder. I'm a fat ***!

The red dot is the pivot point of the tent. The black is the rack frame.

Only issue would be if you have an annex room, those typically attach going back to the hinge so you would need clear access back that far.

Otherwise I do not think it would interfere with anything on a typical RTT.

Another reason to move the hinge flush with the frame is to allow room for the cover to hang down. Otherwise it will probably get caught up between the two halves when you unfold it. You could take the cover off each time but seems like that would be a real hassle.

Yes, the cover will be an issue unless you can set it up to uncover to the other side. I had a similar idea and similar problem.

I did exactly what you described. By positioning the RTT to the driver’s side of the rack, I used it as an overlapping rain cover to my awning, and over the expo trailer gate for cooking.
