I have an older RTT (air-camping)

Trying to figure out a better mounting system. I was going to use uni-strut and a combination of some bolts and flatbar but want something a little . . better

I have seen lots of this aircraft style track system. It seems a lot more low profile which i like. I was looking at the screw down style clamps

I use Thule square bars on my vehicles and was considering using the above clamps, and just drilling the appropriate sized hole through the bar, and mounting the track system to the underside of the tent.

How does the track usually mount? Is there a backing plate of some sort ?

Just in case you were wondering too, the old system was not really as sturdy as I would have liked.

This is my tent by the way.

Your Air Camping tents and Autohome OverLand model tents are 'related' and very similar, but the Autohome employs a different mounting system than the one shown. If you would like to call us, I would be happy to discuss various mounting options. 888-852-2359

Air-Camping is still around

You have a vintage RTT. Only saw one Air-Camping tent in North America. They are part of AutoHome, expedition tents, their OverLand is similar but reengineered and cleaned up for everyone to use. They are still in business making expedition quality tents if you need any help.

Kevin Kelly (Whole Earth Catalog fame) has one, but I guess he didn't realize they are still making these tents in a small town in Italy.

I think your idea of using unitrack for mounting is a good idea. It is super strong and very similar to their current mounting system. It is a really basic tent so you should be able to source anything you need locally. Mike at AutoHome should be able to get any special parts but because of the age of the tent, they will probably make it in their shop by hand so figure a really long turn around time.
