Rumble/rattle

The Jeep developed a low rumble and now a rattle at speeds over 35 mph. Accelerating or coasting, no differance. I'm thinking a driveline ujoint is going bad. All ujoints seem ok when I've crawled under and rotated the driveshafts by hand. Any ideas?

Have you rotated the tires? Mine developed a similar rumble and it turned out to be the front tires were wearing funny. Some lugs were lower than others, .25" or so in an alternating pattern around the tire.

U Joints can sometimes appear to be OK
had one for a friend I was working on , and he said it had a vibration, checked the u joints felt tight etc.
Took it for a ride, yes a lot of vibration, pulled it back in the garage and just happened to touch the rear joint and burnt my hand almost.
The rear one was toast, felt tight and seemed to turn OK but was all rusted solid almost

I just replaced my tie rod ends, hoping my rattle/wobble will go away too... Only after jacking up the jeep and shaking my tire, I realized my ball joints are shot.
I had exactly the same funny tread wear pattern...
Just a thought.
