I'd recommend powercoat as well, and then use the hammered finish rattle can to touch it up (if your powercoat is the heavy duty "orange peel" variety). If you also use the slider as a step for getting into the truck or getting on your roof, then rattle can will wear out pretty quick on the step side as well.
