It requires a platform to sit on, whether a flatbed for detachment or a permanent mount to the chassis.
We use it with our flatbed for camping and then remove it when we are not.

Sorry, no plans for a cross country trip any time soon.
If you need/want to purchase a truck for this camper, I'd be happy to help arrange it. Meaning that I could forward local dealerships to you, then assist in the
flatbed installation. There is a company here that installs flat beds for around 3k. Not sure if trucks are cheaper in this area than on the west coast.
Once built, you can fly out and drive back. Just a thought
