Salvaged p38 help

I'm most likely picking up a p38 with a salvage title tomorrow. This is not my first land rover by far. I kow what to look for and I have seen it all looks great. It honestly need a new bumper maybe a blinker and very minor damage to the hood.. My main question has anybody reconditioned a vehicle? I'm very nervous that it'll some how end up costing something crazy in fees.

By the way it's a 2001 clean only 100k 4.6 drives great no check engine or abs codes.
It was actually for sale at RMR in Alabama a while back. It's just very clean.

I'm paying 3400$

seems a bit high for a salvage title.. Just perused CL here for the So-Cal market and cars with no damage and clean titles were going for 4-5K on average..

Caution - I've owned a 2001 P38 since new so may actually know what I'm talking about in this particular comment. Fun and amazingly capable vehicle that I have taken a lot of place people don't believe it would go.

If it still has the air suspension, before you look at anything else air it up to highest setting and leave a door open while you are checking everything else. If a door is open it won't automatically adjust and you'll be able to see any leak down. Cycle the air suspension a few times (off road height to access height) and observe.

Check for heater core seep, head gaskets (all around), intake manifold (at the back of the engine), and BECM (under the passenger seat). Also make sure all segments are lit on the HVAC control. The BECM is very moisture sensitive so it is not in an ideal location. I lost one to a car detail once when they shampooed the carpet.

Those are the major $$$ things I would check pre-purchase. Anyone else?

is 3400$ decent money for a salvage p38?

Here's the dealer auction data. Their wholesale auction predictor (which is pretty good) for an average condition w/ 100k is $3500.

I don't know where the original poster is located ,but on LA Craig's list u can find running p38s starting from 1000

being salvage is not a problem but the fact that u gonna spend over 3 grand and still work on it , is no bueno deal. I think

There is one very clean 1999 with 103k miles green . U probably can get that around 3500

Well ****. Wish I would have checked here. At least I know I can get my money out of it. I had been watching Craigslist and eBay for a while. They all were asking much more and all had issues.

Really the only issues on this one is bumper, headlight and title. I'm going to build a steel bumper, replace the headlight and get a reconstructed title. I know I'll get my money back on this one. It is very clean other than the bumper.

Alan Bates does a very nice P38 bumper. I put his front bumper, rear bumper, and sliders on my P38

Title is only problem for someone who cares . I have seen so many clean title cars that are junk. If the damage is minor only the bumper and light its not a problem

I'm skeptical

Funny. I never lose money. It's common joke with my friends and family
I can buy something destroy it and sell it for more.

I won't loose I promise, but what am I talking about this truck
Is a keeper.

I did check out that bumper but I actually have a shop near me that fabricates anything. And we'll that's pretty rare in my neck of the woods, so I think I'll give them my business.

For the record I had
98 disco
Lr3
97p38
03disco
And now this 01 p38 so as I said I'm very familiar with land rovers
