Well I have been following some great builds on here for some time and thought I would share my take from across the pond.

This is a bit of a summary to the build but I have done a full write up here: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic109979.html

I have been building it for the past 2 years and every time I think I am finished I find more todo

So from the beginning as it was when I collected it:

Started by stripping it all down. Cleaning the chassis, rebuilding the brakes and greasing all the bearings so that it was a solid base to start on.

I then extended the original chassis and dropped it as I wanted it to sit level behind my Disco 3 (in hindsight I should not have dropped it as much and the plan in this year to reduce the drop to increase the ground clearance again..... But you live and learn hey!)

Also replaced the old NATO ring hitch to a 50mm ball so I did not have to change the hitch in the back of the D3:

So once the chassis was in good nick and protected I could start on the frame. Simple steel box section frame welded together with a plywood floor and partitions:

So then came the cladding. I found some galvanised sheet steel PVC coated roofing sheets which were a good price and size. It meant I did not have to paint anything

Insulated everything and ran cabling for lights and accessories. Then clad it with 5mm plywood on the inside.

So the plan was always to put a RTT on and the frame was built with strengthening down the middle, so I needed to make a roof rack to fit the tent too.

All set up for a test camp and wheels swapped over to D3 rims so to match the Disco.

So after the camp there were a few changes that needed to happen. New fridge slide, new sink and cooker unit, solar panel and a few other small things

And here she is as of a couple of weeks ago on a trip. I have sold the RTT and am getting a bigger 1.8m tent which will cover the whole side of the trailer. Sadly had to use a ground tent on this trip :(

Great looking build. Ive just started my Sankey project. First off, how do you find the weight of the trailer without the brakes now? Does it push your Disco 3?. Also, where did you get the locker catches from?

Thanks. The brakes are still connected as due to the weight I am legally required to have brakes. The new 50mm ball hitch allows me to use the existing brakes which I completely overhauled and had new shoes fitted. These are mechanical drum brakes. With regards to pushing the D3 it does not and only notice it is behind when heavy braking or I look in the mirrors :)

Thanks, couldnt make them out in the pictures. Im planning to keep mine, but using the Nato hook. So other than a drag bar lenghten, it will be the standard drums too.

Brake shoes were from Paddocks spares (I think series 109 rear shoes) but they did need some modification to fit. I have now managed to get the old shoes relined and will be putting them back on I think sorry for the late reply
