We've had a mild December so it was not the problem to get the new brackets welded onto the frame:

All of the rubber layers are straight in line now, to fit the two addional rails:

Here we go:

new pins to held the overun unit in position

changed the design of the hub caps

more greasing nipples made from stainless steel

fitting the bushes into the spring eye and the shakle

refreshed brake adjuster

refreshed brake cylinder

cleaned hub

bearing secure parts

new handcrafted gaskets

refreshed inner hub parts

cleaned oilcatcher with leather seal

Assembling the axle:

brake plate fixed with liquid seal to the flange

groove filled with grease and gasket glued by grease (the drain hole is open!)

oilcatcher centered with my specail tool

a view from the backside

inner seal mounted to the distance ( the coiled spring shows to the inner of the hub, finally!)

using the tool again as a setting die

backing plate (the propper side shows to the inner ring of the taper bearing, it's still the old one!)

adjuster housing

new stainless pins threaded 7/16"x24UNEF

adjusting pistons secured by a hand crafted clip

brake cylinder

fastened by self securing screws. I used M6 for a 10mm spanner, changed the thread into 1/4"UNC. It works very well. The region is packed with water resistend grease

REM: the brake cylinder should be able to slide on the brake plate! The force to reduce the play only comes from the double coiled washers!!!

be sure the grommet snaps into the grouve!

brake shoes held by their springs in right position!

it needs some force to get the brake shoes into the slots

inner bearing in the right position

to adjust the play of the two bearings and to secure the nuts to each other I use these parts

I'm unable to take pictures while mounting the stuffed by grease hub to the axle. Sorry about that.
Without the hub it looks like this:

this washer (it's not the original one!) only fits into the hub cover when mounted vice versa!

Additional

section through the hub



new supporting helper to keep the axle in a vice

lower distance is needed to fix the axle without the brake linkage, upper nut is the fastener

to carry the completed axle with the lifter the upper nut matches the bolt of the brake linkage

therefore the axle doesn't need to be supported by an other helper!

That's the plan.

Time will tell ...

This project started in the middle of November.

The jockey wheel needed to be inspected too:

no grease, no fun at all!

new metric bearing with adopter to fit to the 3/4" shaft

Good work Kurt :ylsmoke: How do you heat your workshop, or do you just wrap up warm with lots of layers.

The workshop is located at the cellar. Always 50°F inside during winter and summertime. No worry about this.
The garage gets a little bit colder now.
It takes me more comfortable by working harder!

My man cave is across the back yard, I'ts always colder in side than outside so I have a wood burning stove in it.:coffeedrink:

Short update.

Rust and old paint came off!

Time to set the front fixing points in place and weld them!

We added another two inlays to the front outrigger to fix the tub from upside down.

Six bolts in the front area and seven in the rear will do!
I guess. :wings:
