Santa Cruz Niquel - the build up

Kevin, a friend of mine, put the bike together in record time; we went for a test ride friday morning.

We called it the 29’er, not because the wheel size, because weighs 29 pounds, the handle bar is 29 inches wide and cost less than 3k. Travel is 6 front and 5.5 in the back.

The braking power is awesome; traction with the Navegal tires is impressive.

The wider handlebar makes a difference in turns, more aggressive, quicker, more aggressive ride style, I like it.

The seat pole, up and down, forgot to use it, way too many gadgets to learn how to use.

Suspension allows me to go faster in places that normally slow me down (walk), I just need to learn to read new lines, at new speed, new handling.

Went to Alisos, up Cholla, nothing new there, just better traction due to tires.

Down RockIt, got PR’s as expected, but plenty of room to improve.

Up Nature Loop, forgot to adjust suspension, walked the bike, unable to climb it.

Found Rattlesnake, slow me down even more. Screwed my Strava time at this point.

Went down the Boy Scout section, I was able to ride all the parts that I normally walk.

After clearing one of the steps, loose control and end up 12 feet below my bike in a cliff, nothing happens to me, neither the bike, just a tiny knuckle hole that bleeds and baptized the bike with my own blood.

Did few adjustments to shifter and brake paddles, other than that, the bike is ready, I’m ready…
