This could be a great deal if you understand and accept the limitations of the Globalstar satellites. Checkout the "Call Times Tool" to get an idea of the limited coverage. Globalstar is currently on track to launch more satellites but the FCC is giving them some problems. I've been following Globalstar for awhile and my non-professional opinion is they seem to be positioning themselves more to be a satellite data provider than a voice carrier. Whatever they decide, and assuming they can stay in business, they're going to have some more great products for us campers/explorers.

Full disclosure: I'm a fan of Globalstar and their stock (GSAT) has treated me well the past couple years.

I would be wary of using Globastar for critical communications because their network is past it's sell-by date.

Once they get their new satellite up, they might be OK.
